We are hiring for the position of Managing Director, Relationship Management in the Life Sciences group, which will oversee the Canadian Life Sciences group and will build and lead the Life Sciences team in market as the Canadian business expands. This role is critical in developing the Life Sciences business with a view towards sustainable growth.
The Life Science Relationship Management roles are responsible for relationship management of commercial bank clients and delivery of SVB's core loan products and broader value proposition to Canadian clients.
The MD RM leads strategic credit discussions with clients and partners with Credit Solutions colleagues to ensure seamless underwriting and portfolio management. Deeply engages clients to build strategic relationships with key executives and influencers in the Canadian ecosystem. Ultimately, the MD RM is responsible for new business development, expansion of existing relationships, and advancement of the SVB brand in market.
Responsible for a broad range of client relationships. Develops new business. Closes the deal and wins relationships from competitors. Highly skilled negotiator and financial engineer. Leads a team consisting of Vice Presidents and a Sales Associate. Recruits and interviews staff. Makes hiring recommendations. Manages workload of the team. Broad sector knowledge across Life Sciences, including Bio Tech and Medical Devices. Understanding of both public and private capital markets.
Internal and external business leader. Able to handle the most complex transactions and warrant negotiations. Maintains an extensive life science and healthcare network of business contacts, including the venture community, other community leaders and executive management of clients, prospects and referral sources. Takes a leadership role in the business community
Accountable for the development and management of LS RM team in the Canadian market; contribute to the overall growth of the Canadian business as part of the leadership team; set targets and manage the team, tracking overall performance
Build strategic relationships with key executives and influencers in the ecosystems
Advising on, originating, and negotiating financing solutions for Commercial Bank clients
Responsible for new business development, expansion of existing relationships
Responsible for ensuring the team is focusing on SVB's Success Drivers and Corporate Goals through collaboration with appropriate business units and thru smart risk taking
10 or more years of related experience in the life science and healthcare ecosystem. Expert knowledge of bank products and services. Advanced knowledge of bank operations and products. Strong negotiation and marketing skills. Good closing skills. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience. Master's Degree considered an asset.
